Providing Tools for Progressive Partners
TTB Projects
Training and Development
2020
Texas Tool Belt prioritizes staff training and development opportunities for our clients so that their team members can be powerful and effective contributors to their organizations. In 2020 TTB partnered with Communication Workers of America (CWA) to design and implement a member training program focused on CRM use, data analytics, election outcome predictions, identifying strategic opportunities, and program planning. To this end TTB created an online curriculum to train Union members on how to interact with the Voter Activation Network CRM, use data to make strategic decisions about where and how to engage in electoral races, build targeted voter lists, and construct multilayered voter outreach programs. We build training programs to meet people where they’re at. This means instilling confidence in their own abilities, trusting their own judgment, decision making skills, and valuing their empirical knowledge.
Vaccine Outreach and Education
As part of a national effort Texas Tool Belt supported Houston in Action in conducting a successful two-part program to understand attitudes towards the COVID-19 vaccine and to coordinate vaccination efforts. Texas Tool Belt recruited, trained and managed the outreach efforts, ensured correct sample sizes of specific communities were included, and managed the data collection processes. Not only did TTB surpass our goals of surveys collected, our team was one of the top performers nationwide Texas Tool Belt then collaborated with organizations to increase vaccination rates by connecting community members to free localized vaccination events.
Texas Tool Belt’s Data department played a vital role in standardizing data collection and building a live dashboard to track the project's progress. In total, the project tracked 109 vaccine drives, administered 1,447 shots, and made over 285,000 outreach attempts, resulting in increased vaccination rates and improved public health safety.

Harris County GOTV
2022
Texas Tool Belt designed and ran a coordinated field program in Harris County for the November 2022 election. TTB built partnerships between Texas Organizing Project, Lone Star Project, Gulf Coast AFL-CIO, Communities in Action, and the Harris County Democratic Party to push for increased voter participation resulting in progressive wins in Texas’s largest County. TTB played a vital role in diminishing voter outreach overlap to stretch dollars, identifying gaps and organizing partners to ensure important strategies were included. Our exceptional recruitment, training, management, and coordination between organization delivered 2,187,945 doors knocked, 2,603,254 phone calls completed and 1,885,830 unique voters contacted.
Fix SAPD
TTB completed a successful project for FixSAPD, a ballot initiative aimed at bringing police accountability to San Antonio. The project had two parts: a canvass to collect signatures to get the initiative on the ballot and a phone bank and canvass to encourage people to vote for the initiative. Despite COVID-19 restrictions, TTB adapted by setting up an outdoor notarization system where canvassers would drive up to a notary and hand over their signed petitions. In total, the project collected over 12.8 thousand signatures by knocking on over 90 thousand doors, surpassing the goal by over 10 thousand signatures. Texas Tool Belt also delivered over 74 thousand phone calls as part of the phone bank and canvassing effort.
TTB's field department managed and trained the canvassers, while the HR and payroll department processed payroll for new hires. Additionally, the data department provided daily analytic reporting, which allowed for real-time monitoring of progress and data-driven decision-making. These efforts helped to ensure the success of the project despite COVID restrictions being in place.
